Prof featured in WNIJ’s Winter Book Series, on air Monday

December 9, 2013 at 7:46 am

Fran Abbate, Beloit College English professor and author of Troy, Unincorporated, will be one of the featured writers in a local National Public Radio affiliate’s Winter Book Series.

This December, WNIJ (89.5) will “curate the best literature from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin,” with Morning Edition host and Book Series editor Dan Klefstad.

"We handle snakes at a Pentecostal gathering in southern Illinois," Klefstad says. "We reconnect with nature at a Michigan cabin. In another, we meet Troilus and Criseyde of ancient Troy, but this time their tragedy plays out in Wisconsin."

Abbate’s Troy, Unincorporated is a poetic retelling of Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde set in Southeastern Wisconsin. It was also a semifinalist for the 2010 Walt Whitman Award and a finalist for the Four Way Books Intro Prize.

Hear Klefstad interview Abbate Monday (Dec. 9) morning during Morning Edition, after NPR news at 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Additional audio of the writers reading from their work will also be available on WNIJ’s website.
