Name: Athiththan Selvendran’14.
Hometown: New York, New York.
Major/minor: International relations.
What brought me to Beloit: The beauty of the campus and being recruited to play football.
My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: I would advise my peers to take any class with Beth Dougherty. She is one the best professors I’ve had at Beloit College and she is the coolest person I’ve met in my life.
You may have seen me: Staring in Athi-brah videos on YouTube or in the weight room getting shredded.
The best book I’ve read at Beloit: Modern Hatreds: The Symbolic Politics of Ethnic War (Cornell Studies in Security Affairs).
What are you working on? At the moment Derby Days (a week of philanthropic events) and Great Lakes (our biggest party of the year, which took place last week), as well as planning copious amounts of events the Sigma Chi Fraternity will do on campus next year to build a better relationship with the Beloit College community.
What’s on your desert island jukebox? House music and Lana Del Rey.
What’s on your Beloit College bucket list? Create Greek unity and strengthen the relationship between the campus and fraternities/sororities.
Favorite meal? Sushi or ostrich with a side of vegetables and a protein shake mixed with Naked juice and a Monster energy drink.
Any advice? Be yourself and don’t live by the constraints of society. My favorite motto is “DO YOU, BOO BOO.”
Who are your heroes? Fat Amy (from Pitch Perfect).
Proudest moment? When I became the 2013-2014 Sigma Chi president.
What are you most looking forward to? Being the Sigma Chi President, graduating, joining the marines as an officer, going to law school, and finally becoming a diplomat and working to improve living conditions in third-world countries.
