The Liberal Arts in Practice has a great resource for students doing summer research or internships: LAPC has a small vehicle available for trips directly related to the internship or research. (It is not available for use for personal errands or social events). Students will need to pay for the gas that they use and top off the tank with every use.
In order for students to use the vehicle, they must be registered drivers through security. If you are not a registered driver, you can register by filling out an application in security and, once they have completed a background check, go on a training ride with them. Please note that students will be responsible for the costs involved in becoming an approved driver (the cost of a background check). It can take a number of days for the background check to be completed, so start this process well in advance of your need to reserve the vehicle.
The procedure:
- Reserve the vehicle at LAPC with Mary McGlynn. Mary is in the office from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; LAPC is located at 703 Emerson Street.
- Pick up the key during office hours.
- Top off the tank (even if you have only driven a few miles and the gauge still in on Full). You must turn in the receipt for the gas with the key. If you have not topped off the tank, you will not be able to use the vehicle again.
- Return keys to LAPC office.
Since there is only one vehicle and this is a shared resource, LAPC will not allow booking far in advance.
If you have any questions about this, please contact Mary McGlynn in LAPC at ext. 2647.
