Garden party: see dancers’ Merce Cunningham-inspired work (pics)

May 6, 2014 at 7:52 am

The students of Gina T’ai’s Modern Dance 3 will present “Chance Dance and Happenstance”  at 4 p.m. today in the garden next to the Science Center. (Rain location will be the atrium.) This 12-minute dance piece is the culmination of the semester's work by the students.

Inspired by Merce Cunningham and John Cage's method of Chance Operations, the students have been studying Cunningham Technique and created this piece, which is a mosaic of all the dances learned and created throughout the semester. Below, you can see them working through the process in rehearsal.

Performers include: McKay Bram, Sudan Garner, Clare Harper, Violet Lane-Ruckman, Sophie Maloney, Skylar Miller, Amelia Tarpey, Toby Walters, and Marilu Wiesner.
