After graduating from Knox College in 2007, Mary Batterman served as a Peace Corps community health volunteer in Kilolo, a remote village in rural Tanzania. She has worked in the field of international development in Tanzania ever since, and has continued to raise funds and work with Kilolo villagers to undertake various health and education projects.
Wednesday (Oct. 9) at 7 p.m., Batterman will present "From Peace Corps to SolarAid: International Development” in Room 150 (Porter Brown Auditorium) of the Science Center.
Batterman currently works with SolarAid, a British NGO that aims to increase the availability of affordable, portable solar lights for the 85 percent of the Tanzanian population who lack access to the electricity grid.
Refreshments and informal conversation will follow Batterman's presentation.
