Fifteen rising juniors and seniors will compete to participate in paid internships at Beloit organizations during the summer of 2014, thanks to an $80,870 grant from the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation. The program, titled Think BIG!, partners Beloit College faculty with local leaders to provide valuable beyond the classroom learning experiences connected to the students’ liberal arts education.
Short for Beloit Internship Grants, Think BIG! will be administered by the Beloit College Liberal Arts in Practice Center in partnership with local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
“The college is very focused on the healthy, mutually beneficial relationship we have with the community,” said Ruth Vater, director of government & foundation relations at Beloit College. “We recognize that this region’s talented scientists and business leaders offer a lot to our students in terms of great mentorship and that these leaders enjoy the energy and ideas Beloit College students bring to their offices in return.”
Students will be required to apply to this program through a competitive process, which includes submitting a resume, cover letter, personal statement, and application form. In the application, the student will also identify a faculty or academic staff mentor who will support the academic component of the internship.
Beloit employers who are interested in hosting an intern and shaping the course of a student’s academic and professional education may contact Jessica Fox-Wilson, director of career development at Beloit College, at 608-363-2647 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
