Bob Fizzell'61, a friend, neighbor, supporter, and champion of Beloit College, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, in Beloit.
His son Rich posted a remembrance on his father's Facebook page yesterday saying, in part: "He was an educator, an elected official, a volunteer, but most of all, a loving husband and father. He was active in progressive causes, community gardening projects, Beloit College activities, and a very vocal advocate for LGBT rights."
Fizzell, who had intended to attend reunion last weekend with his wife, Marjorie Moss Fizzell'62, reportedly passed away surrounded by family at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Sons J. Tobias'90 and Ronald'91 are also alumni of the college.
Condolences can be shared with Marjorie and family by emailing fizzellm@alumni.beloit.edu.
Update (Thursday, June 14): An announcement that appeared in Thursday's Beloit Daily News said that a celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a later, unspecified date. Memorials may be given in Robert’s name to the Beloit College Scholarship Fund.
