Sharon Meade, the program secretary for the Help Yourself program, has been awarded this year’s Bill Behling Prize.

Sharon Meade

Nominated by students, the annual prize recognizes a college staff member—hourly or administrative—who demonstrates a level of care that goes above and beyond their job description. Meade will be presented with the award at the faculty/staff appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, following the staff symposium sessions in the morning.

Congratulations, Sharon!

Bill Behling directed Beloit’s campus food services for more than 20 years, overseeing operations in Commons, D.K.’s Snack Bar, the Java Joint, and the C-Haus, and catering events and summer conferences. “The Food Dude,” an endearing title bestowed upon Bill by the students, went beyond the call of duty by spreading his good humor and good will to the campus community. His contributions to everyday campus life consisted of things like tossing candy bars to those in Commons; working while in costume; and, for students who were far from home, hosting a campus Thanksgiving dinner followed by a night out at the movies. Bill was once quoted as saying, “Our philosophy here is that we serve a little bit of food and a whole lot of relationships,” and it is in that spirit in which the Bill Behling Prize shall be awarded.
