Is there a member of the hourly or administrative staff at the college you'd like to see recognized for efforts, care, and attitude that goes above and beyond the job description? If so, then please nominate him or her for the Bill “the Food Dude” Behling Prize. Nominations must be submitted to Bill Behling Prize Committee (Box 22) by Friday (April 20) to be considered. You can find the nomination form in the upper right-hand corner of this post.
Bill Behling directed Beloit’s campus food services for more than 20 years, overseeing operations in Commons, D.K.’s Snack Bar, the Java Joint, and the C-Haus, and catering events and summer conferences. “The Food Dude,” an endearing title bestowed upon Bill by the students, went beyond the call of duty by spreading his good humor and good will to the campus community. His contributions to everyday campus life consisted of things like tossing candy bars to those in Commons; working while in costume; and, for students who were far from home, hosting a campus Thanksgiving dinner followed by a night out at the movies. Bill was once quoted as saying, “Our philosophy here is that we serve a little bit of food and a whole lot of relationships,” and it is in that spirit in which the Bill Behling Prize shall be awarded.
Nominees must be a current member of the administrative or hourly staff and demonstrate the spirit exemplified by Bill Behling – forging positive, enriching and empowering relationships with students, encouraging them to grow, learn and succeed in the Beloit environment and beyond.
The prize will be awarded during the annual staff recognition ceremony on Wednesday, May 16. The recipient will receive a cash award, framed citation, and his or her name will be added to the engraved plaque honoring Bill, on display in Commons.
