Where to go, what to do: senior week/commencement

Do you know where you need to be--and when--for Commencement? Below, we've compiled a guide. For additional information on parking and accommodations,  visit the college's Commencement website. 

Today (Thursday) May 12
Senior Gala
, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., indoors, Pearsons Hall. 

Saturday, May 14
Various departmental receptions (invitations put in mailboxes)

Athletic awards program, 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m., Flood Arena

President's Reception for students, parents and guests, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the lawn of the President's house.

Baccalaureate, 4:45 p.m. in Eaton Chapel. See your friends and soon-to-be graduates perform! 

Sunday, May 15
Various departmental receptions (invitations put in mailboxes)

Continental Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., DK's, Pearsons Hall. For all Commencement guests and participants

Procession (Outdoors, assuming good weather) This information pertains to everyone marching in Commencement, whether faculty, staff member, or student:

  • The procession for Commencement will form PROMPTLY AT 10:30 a.m.
  •  Those wearing honors cords should arrive at 10:15 a.m.
  • Line up on the sidewalk along College Street in front of the World Affairs Center and Godfrey Anthropology Building.
  • Class marshals will line up the graduating class in one long line alphabetically within degree categories: B.A. candidates first, B.S. candidates second. Signs will help you locate the proper place for your degree and name.

Commencement exercises, 11 a.m. in front of Middle College

Picnic on the mounds:  Faculty/staff, volunteers and graduates will NOT need tickets this year for lunches. Boxed lunches (fruit, wrap, dessert) will be available in the tent on Pearsons Lawn, with entertainment by Dean Moriarty Jazz Band. 

NOTE: All full-time and administrative staff are expected to participate unless excused by President Bierman. Faculty/staff caps and gowns can be returned to the Office of Communications and Marketing the week of May 16 through May 20.

Residence Halls close for all seniors at 8 p.m.
