The Beloit College Political Science Department will host guest lecturer Nasser Abufarha, presenting “Insisting on Life: Fair Trade and Organic Agriculture in Palestine” tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 29) at 7 p.m., in Richardson Auditorium, in Morse-Ingersoll Hall.
Abufarha, a Palestinian entrepreneur and founder of the Palestinian Fair Trade Association, describes Canaan Fair Trade, his exporting business, as “based on social-impact goals, not necessarily profit maximizing.” Working with independent co-ops that adhere to fair trade principles and include entrepreneurial grants for individual workers, Abufarha says that “social impact is our entrepreneurship goal [.]”
