Performance to satirize and explore the American Black-Jew experience

August 27, 2010 at 7:46 am

Artists Larry Jay Tish and Ron Jones will explore the state of American race and cultural relations by comparing two minorities in a sketch comedy, improvisation, and multi-media performance on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m., in the Wilson Theatre, in Mayer Hall, on the Beloit College campus. The performance is free and open to the campus and community.

“The Black Jew Dialogues” sprouted from three days Tish and Jones spent together in a cheap hotel room, discussing their own experiences, and how they come from communities that share similar histories of oppression, pride and a commitment to justice and civil rights. Their show begins in the time of the Pharaohs and winds through Africa, colonial times and present-day America, touching on soul food and Jewish comfort food, JUDAR (the ability of Jews to spot other Jews) and ridiculing “two rednecks on a joy ride of hate.”
