Meet: Kaavya Parsa’15, future animal rights lawyer

February 12, 2013 at 6:03 pm

KP 1

Name: Kaavya Parsa'15

Hometown: Des Moines, Iowa.

Major/minor: Literary studies.

My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: I think my favorite class would still be my FYI, which I took with Jingjing Lou. The group and Jingjing were amazing, active, and supportive, and the course material was interesting, combining issues of spirituality and ecology in different societies.

You may have seen me: In the 609 kitchen cooking for vegan co-op.

The best book I’ve read at Beloit: There have been a lot, but one that comes to mind is The Blithedale Romance by Nathaniel Hawthorne, which we read in Cynthia McCown’s English 190 class.

What are you working on? Long term, I’m working on a career as an animal rights lawyer. Short term, I’m working on a poem called “The Queen of Hearts and the Head of State.”

What’s on your desert island jukebox? I know this is dorky, but a lot of K-pop, Bollywood, everything happy from Andy Grammar to the Beatles, and some jazz and classical.

Any advice? Once you find your purpose, go for it. Don't question it or feel nervous, because your gut instinct is probably right. For me, no matter what questions or obstacles I've faced, I've always come back to animal rights law as my future.

Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? Alanna the Lioness, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Deepika Padukone (a Bollywood actress).

What gets you up in the morning? My alarm. Slowly, but (mostly) surely. In the summer and spring, the flowers and the birds!

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Turtle creek. It's beautiful, peaceful, in walking distance, and a great swim.
