Meet the viola-playing Emma Richards’15

March 5, 2012 at 5:00 pm

Emma 2

Name/year of graduation:  Emma Richards’15
Hometown/residence:
Brookfield, Wis.
Major:
 Undeclared; most likely history.
You may have seen me:
Walking to the Hendricks Center with my viola or in Java Joint drinking lots of coffee.
What are a few of your favorite things?
Some of my favorite things are my viola, my Pentax camera, sunglasses, coffee, and scarves, especially my yellow scarf.
What’s on your desert island jukebox?
Bob Dylan, Adele, Dr. Dog, Arcade Fire, Simon and Garfunkel, and Regina Spektor.
What do you do in your free time?
Listen to music, take pictures.
Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests?
Bob Dylan, Adele, and Richard III.
Who are your heroes?
My entire family, as the youngest of five I have benefited from having four fantastic role models. And my parents who never cease to amaze me with everything they do. Another hero is my high school history teacher, Mr. Patrick Coffey. He one of the most fantastic teachers I have ever had. He had so much passion for teaching and for all of his students. He is a walking history book with endless amounts of information, and I’m pretty sure he never sleeps.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be able to sing well.
Proudest moment?
This is a tie. One was when the fourth-grader I was teaching cello played the entire song I was conducting correctly at a concert. He looked up at me after with the biggest grin on his face. The other was when my high school orchestra played in Carnegie Hall.
What are you most looking forward to?
Studying abroad! I am undecided where I want to go, but I think either I want to go to England or Spain. But in the near future, I’m looking forward to my sister, Willa, coming home from Morocco!
