MEET: Elaina Lenertz’12, who’s writing 60 pages for her honors project

December 7, 2011 at 4:24 pm

EL

Name: Elaina (Lainie) Lenertz’12
Hometown/residence: Eagan, Minn.
Major: Psychology and creative writing.
You may have seen me: Repping ???Pocket Lint (BC literary magazine) or laughing inappropriately.
What are a few of your favorite things? Stand-up comedy, social psychology studies, robots, Netflix instant-play, religious imagery, snuggly sweaters, long conversations with acquaintances, Biggie Smalls.
Favorite meal? I don’t know what the meal is but it definitely has cheese on it.
Any advice? Don’t overschedule. That said, once you have completely overscheduled yourself, make sure to have a positive attitude about it and you’ll get through. In addition, if you drink too much coffee and start to feel dizzy, drink some water. You’ll feel human again.
What do you do in your free time? In my free time I listen to poetry podcasts (super-geeky, I know), jog by the Rock River, make crafts, and theorize about sandwiches. There are a million ways to make a grilled cheese incredible.
Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? I think I would like to have dinner with Phyllis Diller, Flannery O’Connor, and Phil Zimbardo.
What gets you up in the morning? The realization that I’m already late.
Beatles or Stones? Stones… I’m still upset that Angie didn’t work out… but hey, we can’t say they never tried.
What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Shortstacks! It’s a little breakfast spot that closes at 2 p.m., and the lady who works there is super sweet.
What’s the number one thing on your bucket list? Probably traveling more, especially to Spanish-speaking countries. Meeting a tiger? Or Will Smith. I guess just getting jiggy with it, in general.
What are you most looking forward to? My senior reading of my creative writing honors project. I’m excited to generate 60 pages and be able to look back and realize that I have something substantial. And I want everyone to clap at the end.
