Poet Derrick Harriell will visit Beloit College to read from his new collection, Ropes (Aquarius Press, 2013). The public reading, in addition to a craft talk, will take place at 7 p.m. in the courtyard of the Wright Museum of Art.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Harriell worked as an assistant poetry editor for Third World Press and is currently the poetry editor for The Cream City Review. A 2009 Pushcart nominee, his poems have appeared in various literary journals and anthologies. Cotton (Aquarius Press, 2010) is his first collection of poems.
Ropes explores the lives of historic African American fighters Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson, including their roles as fathers, brothers, husbands and activists.
This event is free and open to the campus and community.
