What is Girls and Women in Science?
Girls and Women in Science is a minds-on, hands-on science workshop weekend for sixth grade girls, along with their teachers and parents. This award winning conference encourages the exploration of science and mathematics by middle school girls through two days of experiments, activities, and interaction with science professionals. The girls, teachers, and parents will work with Beloit College faculty, students, and alumnae. The entire weekend is designed to build confidence in the girls who attend by providing them with opportunities and encouragement that they may not otherwise receive.
Who can participate?
Girls and Women in Science is open to one female 6th grade student nominated by her teacher. 6th grade science teachers and parents are welcome to attend; there will be fun activities for everyone. Teachers who wish to bring a second student should contact Girls and Women in Science.
How much does it cost?
There is no conference and project fee. The weekend is supported by Beloit College and private donations. Parents and teachers will need to arrange their own accommodations for Friday night.
This event occurs on:
- Friday, April 4th, 2014
- Saturday, April 5th, 2014
