As part of The Way, The Truth, and the Life speaking series sponsored by Beloit College Spiritual Life Program, guest speaker JoAnne Marie Terrell will give a public presentation titled "A Love Supreme: The Historical Roots of Christian Exclusivism," in exploration of the historical antecedents of Christian exclusivism in relationship to ecumenical, interfaith, and postmodern contexts.
BIO
Assoc. Prof. of Ethics & Theology
Professor Terrell is an ordained elder in the Michigan Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
As an African-American, Christian and Womanist, rooted in the Church, Professor Terrell enjoys exploring the antecedents of her own faith claims. Her research interests include a focus on Christian origins and their potential for enhancing future developments in black, feminist and womanist theologies on questions of doctrine. In addition, she enjoys the spiritual benefits of studying the ancient testimonies and sacred texts of other cultures.

About the series:
The premise is simple: speakers representing a wide variety of perspectives will each express their core theological commitments by engaging the paradigmatic New Testament text, John 14:6, “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” We hope this will present two opportunities for engaging the depth, beauty and diversity of Christian traditions and truth claims, inviting Christians on campus to engage in substantive, public theological reflection, and non-Christians to look with fresh eyes at what is perhaps the most controversial and least understood religion at Beloit College.
