The Three Rivers Archaeological Society will welcome Heather Walder, Ph.D. anthropology student at UW-Madison,who will give a presentation that covers questions, methods, and initial results of research into social interaction and change and the dynamic movement of people and trade goods during the earliest years of European contact in Wisconsin, ca. AD 1600-1760. Chemical compositional analysis techniques help answer anthropological questions related to chronology, exchange, and social identity, exemplified by study of glass trade beads and European-made metal used as ornamental objects. This research promotes collections-based investigations as a way to protect archaeological resources and utilize them to answer new research questions.
