Poetry Workshop

During this three-week seminar, we’ll seek out inspiration on the Beloit campus and beyond. We’ll engage in daily writing exercises that will increase our knowledge of the craft of poetry. We’ll share our poems in small and large-group workshops. We’ll read widely, too, from books by American poets whose work illustrates the range of subject matter and form in poetry today. Our critical writing assignments will include a Poet’s Choice presentation for class on a poet of your choice drawn from the Beloit College Library, an academic review of a book of poetry that we’ve read, and a mix of informal and formal responses to our texts. Your final collection of poetry will include six revised poems and a commentary on your writing and revision process. (See full course description)
