"The Lunchbox Series" presents: "Why William and Henry James visited Wisconsin" a lecture with Professor Shawn Gillen.

William, Henry, and Alice James are among the most influential and studied intellectuals in American letters. They lived most of their lives in Europe, Boston, and New York City and are never associated with Wisconsin. This presentation will examine a bitter James family drama that rivals any episode of Downton Abbey and took place on a farm near Beloit and on the streets of Milwaukee. Professor Gillen will argue that what happened in Wisconsin to the James family had a profound influence on the course of American literature, psychology, and philosophy.
