Labs Across the Curriculum presentation with Nancy Krusko and Lisa Anderson-Levy

Date: Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Time: 12:00 pm

Location: Mathers, Pearsons Hall

Contact: Scott W. Lyngaas, Scott Lyngaas / 608-363-2297

The pilot for the ethnographic field school began Fall 2011 and continues through Spring 2012. As the idea of the field school developed and planning proceeded, it became evident that this field school has the potential to provide rich opportunities to engage students and faculty across a variety of disciplines, particularly those in the humanities or sciences where the connections might not be immediately apparent.  This field school represents a lab model for faculty interested in exploring the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica, as a productive site not just for students participating in the field school but also for enriching teaching/learning experiences in Beloit.

Nancy Krusko and Lisa Anderson-Levy recently led a student group in Kingston, Jamaica. This presentation will describe and analyze this experience as well as provide some context in terms of conception of the project, how it "worked" this time, how it might work in the future, and what oppotunities are available for other faculty to accompany students to Jamaica.

This event is free and open to Beloit College faculty and staff.

Please RSVP to Csilla Macsari by Tuesday, January 31 to ensure a proper headcount.

Labs lunches are opportunities for faculty members currently undertaking projects sponsored by the Labs Across the Curriculum initiative to present their projects. It is hoped that this forum will offer both the opportunity to learn about the exciting projects taking place this year, and to reflect on future projects and collaboration.
