"Skin and Hair," an exhibit by Alex Pisarek'12 featuring woodworking and etching, opens at Gallery ABBA.

Pisarek says, "I am particularly interested in the body, specifically the things we as a society find repulsive. My work attempts to create a dialogue with viewers. [...] My interest in this is partially derived from the depiction of the human body in mass media, where photos that represent ideal an desired bodies are actually highly manipulated to a point of gross impossibility. Thus, I present viewers with representations of blemishes and body hair that exist on every person but don't exist in the ideal presented by western culture. [...] The aim of my work is to impel viewers into thinking about their bodies and the bodies around them, to question why imperfections are imperfections."

This event is free and open to campus and community.
