Mirror, Mirror On the Wall: Reflecting on Religion and Secularism at Beloit

Date: Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Time: 7:00 pm

Duration: 2 hours

Location: Moore Lounge, Pearsons

Contact: Natalie Gummer, Natalie Gummer

Two concurrent workshops brought to you by students in RLST 280/ANTH 275, "Secularism and Fundamentalism," as part of their final project in the course.

In the words of student leaders, the workshops:

"...aim to foster open and informed discussion of religion on campus amongst students and faculty. Through this discussion we hope to encourage people to engage in dialogue with others and to provide a discussion based on experience and first-hand knowledge instead of preconceived notions and snap-judgments. We also hope to encourage people to examine more critically what informs their own views.

We ask our participants to be willing to step outside of their comfort zone and be open to thinking about concepts and issues you don't normally engage with. At times during the workshop you may feel uncomfortable and we ask you to try to engage with this discomfort as a way of questioning your own beliefs in light of the beliefs of others."

Note that the workshops aim to engage ALL participants, whether they identify as non-religious or religious, in critical examination of their own assumptions.

This event is free and open to students and faculty.
