Agriculture in the United States replicates other profit-driven models. Corporations plan their product or service offerings around those things that will deliver the greatest return on their investment (ROI). Now that we have moved to a global economy, corporations around the globe are positioning to secure a higher ROI. What does that mean for our world’s population? 

Dr. Lynn Sherrod, an expert in the field of strategic communication campaigns in the public sector, will give a public lecture titled "Is a Food Crisis Looming in our Future?" As an innovator in communication modeling, she designs systems to bring about attitudinal change in populations, and drive the adoption of desired behaviors. Dr. Sherrod founded a business that is based on the idea of connecting local farmers with their customers. The disparity of internet access and limited food distribution remain as roadblocks to fully implementing a shop at home system. The amount of local food available, however, does not come near the demand for sustainably-produced agricultural products. Understanding these limitations, Farmer Grown is experimenting with food systems that can deliver the ability to access nutritious foods close to home.
