Madison, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Tennis team closed out their 2013 season on Sunday at the Midwest Conference Singles Tournament. Overall, the squad finished fifth in the final MWC standings.
In the Singles Tournament on Sunday at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Libby Storrick led the way with the Consolation title at #5, defeating Monmouth 8-1 in the Consolation semifinals and Ripon 8-0 in the Final after falling in the quarterfinals.
Three other Buccaneers advanced into the Championship semifinals before being ousted - Courtney Yates at #2, who went 2-1 on the day and Alex Hinck at #3 and Maria Mears at #4, who both went 1-1 on the day. Trina Capelli at #1 and Paola Schnabel at #6 both won their first round match before falling in the quarterfinals.
Back on Saturday in the Doubles Tournament, the #2 team of Mears and Storrick rebounded from their first round defeat to top Ripon 8-0 in the Consolation semifinals and Illinois Col. 8-0 in the Consolation final to lead Beloit.
The #1 team of Capelli and Yates and the #3 duo of Hinck and Samantha Kinard both won their first round match but lost in the quarterfinals.
The Buccaneers finished the regular season with an 8-7 overall dual record, 2-2 in the MWC North Division, which was good for third place.
Seniors Yates and Hinck played their final matches for the Bucs.
