Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Tennis team made sure that first-year head coach didn't fall short in her first career match on Thursday at the Strong Complex Tennis Courts, topping Loras College 8-1 in the season-opener for both squads.
The Buccaneers won all three doubles matches to start the meet, building a 3-0 lead. Maria Mears and Trina Capelli at #1 and Emma Beck and Libby Storrick at #2 both won 8-5 while Emma Koeppel and Dominique Bodoh won 8-4 at #3.
After Loras got their lone point at #1 Singles, Beloit ran off five straight wins to take the match. Capelli won 6-1, 6-0 at #2; Beck took three sets before winning 6-0, 5-7, 10-2 at #3; Storrick won 6-0, 6-0 at #4; Koeppel got the win at #5 when her opponent retired; and Alisha Ankin took a 7-6 (12-10), 6-4 win at #6.
The Bucs continue their four matches in the first three days stretch when they host UW-La Crosse at Strong on Friday afternoon. The match begins at 4:00 pm.
