How did you find out about Beloit? Did you know a lot about Beloit when you first visited campus?
“I found Beloit at a college fair and then was pursued by Bob Hodge the women’s tennis coach. By the time I visited Beloit I was already accepted and knew I was going to attend Beloit.”
We are focusing a lot on Liberal Arts in Practice at Beloit; so as part of what you practice(d) name one aspect that you took away(will take) from being a Beloit student-athlete that you use in your everyday life.
“As a student athlete I have learned to better manage my time. There are a lot of weekend in tennis where we play double matches two days in a row and on those weekends that can add up to a lot of hours playing tennis. So I have to learn to plan ahead and be disciplined so that I can turn work in on time.”
What (if any) accolades did you receive (Academically/Athletically) while being a student-athlete?
“During the fall 2010 season I earned 2nd place at the Mid-West Conference in third doubles as well as sixth singles. That same season I was also voted MVP by my teammates. As a sophomore I was awarded an Asian Studies Grant and Venture Grant which I used to conduct an environmental conservation volunteer project in rural Nepal. Recently I have been awarded the Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship and will be studying in Pune, India next year.”
If you could name one class or professor (mentor) that really meant something to you while at Beloit, who or what would that be?
“The most influential class I have had is Shannon Fie’s ‘Research and Design in Anthropology’. This class made me become a better, more focused writer. It is because of this class that I received the grants for my Nepal and the rotary Scholarship.”
Name one of the most rewarding experiences you took part in while at Beloit College?
“The most rewarding experience I have had at Beloit College was being part of an AmeriCorps education program. I completed 300 community service hours in one calendar year. Service projects I worked at include: the blood drive, tutoring at the Rock County Christian School, humane society, Wednesday night activities with adult with disabilities, and as a Red Cross volunteer.”
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? - Name a career goal/aspiration you strive for.
“In 5 years I will either have a career relating to Anthropology and India, maybe in Grad School, or on an epic road trip through all the countries that in ‘-stan’ ( Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, ect.) .”
In ONE word I would sum up Beloit College as- Enriching.”
