Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team needed some late heroics to record their first win of the 2013 season, and they got it from Caitlin Paterson in a 3-2 win over Eureka College in the home opener at the Strong Complex Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
The win was also Nick Chapman's first as Beloit's head coach.
Eureka jumped into the lead just under nine minutes into the contest on a corner kick before Emily Ebner tied it at 15:53 off Emma Schroer's assist. Felicia Carlson then gave the Buccaneers a 2-1 lead at 38:46 off an assist from Ariana Espinoza, which was the score at the break.
The Red Devils tied it up with under ten minutes left in regulation but Paterson finished it off with 1:22 remaining from the left of the goal.
Alex Spirov made five saves for the win. Beloit out-shot EC 28-10 for the game and had eight corner kicks to Eureka's three.
Back on Friday in the season-opener at Wisconsin Lutheran College the Bucs fell 2-0. Spirov had eight saves in the contest, which saw each squad attempt 15 shots.
The Buccaneers have one day before getting back on the field to complete a busy early part of their season, hosting Rockford University at the Strong field on Tuesday. Action begins at 4:00 p.m.
