Beloit, WI -- Whatever adjustments the Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team made at halftime of their Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference opener with Fontbonne University were, they definitely worked.

The Bucs exploded out of the break with 11 straight goals to turn a close game into a 16-5 victory, their second straight.

Sarah Pipal opened the scoring less than two minutes in before the Griffins scored three straight goals to go up 3-1 with 9:39 left in the opening half.  Beloit got back on track when Erin Chambers, assisted by Ellie Daniels, scored at 8:07 to cut the deficit to one.  Sam Schonberger then got the Buccaneers back in front with back-to-back scores, the second assisted by Marcail Distante, before Cate Rubin added another goal with 1:15 left to make it a 5-3 contest.  Fontbonne had the last word of the half, scoring with three seconds left to make it 5-4 at halftime.

Beloit turned up the heat on a cool day coming out of halftime.  Sara Fithian started the run 41 seconds into the second half.  Schonberger followed with her second goal of the game, assisted by Pipal, before Fithian tallied again.  Chambers, assisted by Caitlin Paterson, had the fourth goal of the run before Fithian scored back-to-back, the second assisted by Rubin, to complete a six goals in 4:43 stretch that put the Bucs up 11-4.

After a five-minute break with no scoring Schonberger scored her fourth goal of the game off an assist by Fithian at the 20:00 mark.  Chambers scored on the man advantage at 13:14 and then tallied again two minutes later off Pipal's assist to give Beloit a 10-goal lead at 14-4 with 11:48 remaining.  Pipal scored, assisted by Paterson, at 9:51 and Distante finished the Buccaneer scoring with 4:20 left, assisted by Chambers to make it 16-4.  Fontbonne closed out the scoring with 2:43 left for the final score.

Michelle Dillon had five saves, four in the first half, to record the win in net.

The Buccaneers hit the road for the first time on Tuesday when they play another MWLC game at Aurora University.  Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
