Following a national search, Meredith Newman has been named the first Head Coach of Women’s Lacrosse at Beloit College.  The announcement was made by Director of Athletics and Recreation Peggy Carl.

“We are thrilled to welcome Meredith Newman as the newest member of the Beloit College Buccaneer staff,” said Carl.  “Her experience in Division III Lacrosse was of particular interest to the search committee.  Combined with her maturity and obvious love of the game, Meredith was the right choice for us.”

“Meredith knows what it will take to build a successful program and her energy and enthusiasm will be great assets as she builds this program from scratch,” continued Carl.  “We are confident that Meredith will be a fantastic addition to the Beloit College community.”

Newman comes to Beloit from Kenyon College in Ohio, where she served as the Ladies’ Assistant Coach the last two seasons.  Her coaching resume also includes two years as an assistant at Merestead Camps in both Pennsylvania and Virginia.

A 2009 graduate of Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia, Newman was a four-year letterwinner on the women's lacrosse team and served as a team captain for both her junior and senior seasons. She was also named to the 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Squad.

As an attack with the Vixens, Newman tallied over 160 points for her career, making the greatest impact her junior season, in which she ranked among the ODAC leaders in points, goals, and assists.

“From the moment I stepped foot on the Beloit College campus I could sense that I was in a special place,” said Newman.  “To be involved with the growth of lacrosse and pioneer the women's program at Beloit is a phenomenal opportunity, for which I would like to thank Director of Athletics Peggy Carl, President Scott Bierman, Dean of Students Christina Pape Klawitter, and all of the individuals involved in the national search.  Beloit College is poised to foster a program fit for the national stage, and I am excited to be at the helm, navigating the Buccaneer Women to the top.”

Newman will officially start August 1 and begin preparations for the Buccaneers’ inaugural season in the Spring of 2013.
