Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in Flood Arena on Tuesday night 60-59 to St. Norbert College on a pair of free throws in the final seconds.
SNC started hot and jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two-plus minutes. But the Buccaneers responded with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to go on top and then put a 9-3 run on top of that to lead 21-11 midway through the half. The Green Knights pulled back within four on a quick 6-0 run but Beloit closed out the half with a 12-5 spurt to lead 33-22 at the break.
The Bucs kept it up early in the second half and got their largest lead of the game at 40-26 three minutes in. But an 11-0 St. Norbert run over the next five minutes pulled them back within 40-37 with 12:22 left. Beloit got their lead back out to 45-39 before SNC answered with a 7-1 run to tie it up at 46-all with 8:51 remaining. Neither team could pull in front by more than three down the stretch. The Buccaneers took a 59-58 lead with 21 seconds left on a Lauren McNanna free throw. But the Green Knights drew a foul with six ticks left and made both free throws to go up 60-59. A desperation shot by McNanna at the buzzer went off the rim to end it.
