Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team has gone through plenty of anguish during a tough stretch to start the season. It hurt a little more on Tuesday night in Flood Arena in a 79-75 loss to Lake Forest College.
The Foresters erased a deficit that reached double figures at times during the game and got a basket and two free throws in the final four seconds to shock the Buccaneers.
Beloit trailed 12-3 five minutes into the game but went on a 9-0 run of their own over the next four minutes to pull into a 12-all tie. The game was tight for the next nine minutes, with neither team getting any separation. With the Buccaneers leading 29-28 with just under three minutes left they went on another 9-0 run to close the half and head to the lockerroom up 38-28. Kandace Fox's 12 points and ten from Lauren McNanna fueled the charge, as did 5-11 shooting from three-point land.
The Bucs maintained their lead through much of the second half, still leading by ten at 56-46 with 11:43 remaining. But LFC put together an extended 21-10 to take the lead at 67-66 with 4:28 left. From there it was close until the final seconds. McNanna tied the game at 75-75 with 17 seconds left before the Foresters got a basket with four seconds left. They then stole the inbounds pass and converted two charity tosses after a foul with one-plus seconds left for the final margin.
McNanna finished with 27 points while Fox had 16 before fouling out. Jenna Larsen had nine points and a game-high ten rebounds.
Beloit is now off until Wednesday, December 19, when they host Loras College in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest in Flood Arena.
