Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team got the monkey off their back on Saturday, snapping a nine-game losing streak with a 73-59 win at Lawrence University.
The Buccaneers led from end to end but couldn't shake away in the first half. Beloit went up by six, their biggest lead of the opening 20 minutes, at 21-15 at the 8:44 mark but Lawrence went on an 8-2 run over the next four minutes to tie it up at 23-all. The Bucs answered that run with an 11-5 spurt to close the half and lead 34-28 at the break.
LU kept pushing and used a 6-0 run during the first three minutes of the second half to close with 38-35. But Beloit had what proved to be the final response, going on a 15-3 run over the next six minutes to take control for good. They went up by 20 with 6:34 left and had their lead reach 21 several times in the final five minutes before settling for the 14-point win.
Kandace Fox had 17 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead the Buccaneers. Faith Jones added 16 while Lauren McNanna had 13 points and Jenna Larsen 11.
Beloit looks to keep the momentum going on Wednesday night at Carroll University in Waukesha. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
