Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball came back from a 20-point deficit in the second half but it wasn't quite enough in the final minute as Illinois College won 63-57 in Flood Arena on Friday night.
After the Buccaneers scored the first point of the game on a Kirstin Acosta free throw Illinois College went on an 11-0 run to go up 11-1 eight minutes in. Beloit responded with a 10-4 run to pull back within four with 7:44 left but the Lady Blues closed the half on a 16-4 run to lead 31-15 at the break.
IC pushed their lead to 20 at the 18:09 mark and were still up 42-24 with 16:14 left before the Bucs started chipping away at the deficit. Kandace Fox made a jumper with 4:30 left in regulation to give Beloit its first lead since 1-0 at 52-50, completing a 28-8 burst. The Buccaneers still held a 55-54 advantage with 2:56 left before Illinois College closed the game on a 9-2 run, including hitting a three-pointer and six free throws in the final 1:02.
Acosta finished with a double-double, scoring a career-high 19 points while tying her career-high with 11 rebounds. Faith Jones had 12 points.
The Buccaneers look to keep their play at a high level as they host the second-place team in the Midwest Conference, Monmouth College, for Hall of Honor Day on Saturday. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
