Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team put 100 points on the board for the first time in 16 years but that total came up short in a 114-100 loss at Knox College on Saturday afternoon.
The last time the Bucs scored 100 came during the 1994-95 season in a 101-99 double-overtime win over Illinois College in Beloit.
The game was close through the first eight-plus minutes of the first half until the Buccaneers went on a 17-4 run to grab a 33-20 lead with 7:50 left. Knox pulled back to within eight with 6:26 remaining but an 11-2 Buc run pushed their lead to the largest they'd enjoy at 48-31 at the 3:56 mark. Beloit led 55-44 at the break.
The Bucs shot 53.8% (21-39) in the opening half. Claire Bush scored 17.
The Prairie Fire slowly cut into the lead and tied it at 65-all at the 13:55 mark of the second half. The score was tied again at 77-77 before KC went on a 16-2 run over the next three minutes to take a lead they wouldn't give up. Beloit pulled back within six at 104-98 with 2:48 left but Knox closed the game with a 10-2 run for the final margin.
There were career-highs all over the stat sheet for the Buccaneers. Bush finished with a career-high 25 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Lauren McNanna had a career high with 23 points, as did Leah Kruckman with 14. Faith Jones scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. Kandace Fox added ten points and MacKenzie Hilliard grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.
The Bucs finish up their three-game road trip on Wednesday night at Ripon College. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
