Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team fell behind Grinnell College early and could never make up the deficit in a 59-47 loss in Flood Arena on Thursday night.
The Pioneers scored 16 of the games first 19 points to lead 16-3 nine minutes into the contest. The Bucs slowly chipped away and got back to within six at 26-20 with 1:54 left in the half but GC closed with a 4-1 spurt to lead 30-21 at the break.
Grinnell got their lead back up to 12 early in the second half and held it there for much of the half. Beloit got as close as they had been since early in the game at 43-38 with 8:17 remaining but the Pioneers put together a 9-4 run to go back up by double figures with 4:37 left. GC hit seven of eight free throws in the final minute to hold off any Buccaneer comeback effort.
Faith Jones led Beloit with eight points while Lauren McNanna and Claire Bush each scored seven.
The Buccaneers have one day to get ready for another Midwest Conference game, hosting Lawrence University at 2:00 p.m. in Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon.
