Bucs Fall to Wartburg in Championship Game of Lakeland Tourney

Sheboygan, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball put together comeback efforts several times but in the end fell to Wartburg College 76-54 in the Championship Game of the Lakeland College Tipoff Classic on Saturday.

Kandace Fox was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Knights raced out to a 22-4 lead midway through the opening but the Buccaneers used an 18-3 run over the next six minutes to pull back within 25-22 three minutes before the half.  Wartburg closed out the half on a 10-2 run to lead 35-24 at the break.

WC kept their run going as the second half started, scoring 14 of the first 19 points to take a 49-29 advantage five minutes in.  Again Beloit came back, going on an 8-0, three-minute run to pull back within 49-37 at the 12-minute mark.

Wartburg still held the 12-point lead at 59-47 with 7:50 left and then held the Bucs to just two points in the last seven-plus minutes while scoring 15 to ease in for the win.

Faith Jones led Beloit with 13 points while Fox added 12 and Kirstin Acosta ten.

The Buccaneers are now off until after Thanksgiving, opening Midwest Conference play next Sunday when they travel to Lake Forest College.  Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
