Sheboygan, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team made some big plays late to take a 71-68 win at Lakeland College on Friday night in a semifinal of the Lakeland Tipoff Classic.
Lakeland jumped out quick in the contest, taking an eight-point lead five minutes in after scoring 10 of the first 12 points. But the Bucs came back and tied it at ten over a 3:14 span. They continued their run to build a 22-15 advantage with seven minutes left in the half.
LC then put together a run to tie the contest at 28-all with just over a minute left before Beloit pushed it back up to 32-28 with ten seconds left. Lakeland hit a three at the buzzer to cut the Buccaneer lead to 32-31 at the break.
The Muskies came out strong in the second half and took a 38-34 lead 2:11 into the second half. But Beloit came back again and tied it at 51-51 with 12:32 remaining.
The game remained close for the next eight minutes and was tied at 65-all with 4:10 left. With the Bucs leading 66-65 with three minutes left Jenna Larsen hit an old-fashioned three-point play to give them a 69-65 lead, a lead they wouldn't give up.
Kandace Fox made a steal and layin with less than 30 seconds left to push the lead to 71-65. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by LC set the final score.
Larsen led the way with 14 points. Fox had 12 points and eight rebounds while Sarah Stariha had 12 points and four assists. Lauren McNanna added 11 points.
The Buccaneers will take on the winner of the second semifinal between UW-Stout and Wartburg College at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for the Tourney title.
