Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team was in it for a while in the first half on Wednesday night in Flood Arena but a first-half run by Carroll University led to an 80-46 defeat in the home finale.
Carroll scored the first seven points of the game but Beloit got back in to it with a 7-2 run of their own. The Pioneers started to regain momentum but the Bucs kept getting back close. But with CU leading 18-17 with 8:00 left in the half Carroll went on a game-changing 15-4 run to get their lead up to 12 at 33-21 with just over four minutes left. They led 39-26 at the break.
CU opened the second half with a 9-2 run in the first four-plus minutes to move up by 20 and never looked back. The final margin was the largest lead of the game as the Buccaneers got no closer than 25 in the final 12 minutes.
Diana Sopkowicz, in her final game in Flood Arena, had 15 points while Kirstin Acosta scored a career-high 13 and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Amanda Moore, also playing her final home game, had three points, five rebounds and four assists.
Beloit closes out its 2010-11 season on Saturday afternoon at Ripon College. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
