Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team wasn't about to let their three seniors go home unhappy on Senior Day as they pulled away for a 77-55 win over Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon in Flood Arena.
Seniors Mary Evans, Diana Sopkowicz and Amanda Moore were the honored guests for the Buccaneers' 2011 Senior Day celebration.
Lawrence wasn't ready to join in the festivities early on, leading through the first six-plus minutes. But Lauren McNanna made two free throws at the 13:00 minute mark to put the Bucs up 13-12 and they never looked back. Beloit jumped up by 12 at the 7:39 mark 24-12 and still led by that margin at the break 34-22.
Sopkowicz led the opening-half charge with 14 points.
The Buccaneers took complete control in the second half, coming out of the lockerroom on a 12-4 run in the first five minutes to go up by 20, 46-26. The lead reached 22 several times as Beloit maintained its comfortable margin and hit a high of 26 with 1:09 left. LU never got closer than 16 in the final 18 minutes.
Sopkowicz finished with a double-double, scoring 23 and grabbing 12 rebounds. Kandace Fox added 15 and Moore 14. Fox also dished out a career-high six assists.
The Bucs close out their home schedule on Wednesday night when they host Carroll University in a 5:00 p.m. game in The Flood.
