Dubuque, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team put together a strong run late in the game but came up short in a 77-69 loss at Loras College on Friday afternoon.
The Bucs led very early in the game before Loras tied it up at 7-all three minutes in. The DuHawks then took the lead for good with an 8-0 run over the next three minutes. Beloit pulled back within two at 22-20 with 5:31 left but LC closed the half on a 9-2 run to lead 31-22 at the break.
The DuHawks stretched their lead to 18 at 49-31 five minutes into the second hald and grabbed their biggest lead at 58-35 with 9:29 remaining.
Loras still led by 20 at 65-45 with 5:27 left before the Buccaneers went on a 19-5 run over the next four minutes to pull within 70-64 with 1:17 remaining. But LC hit several free throws in the final minute to hold on for the win.
Diana Sopkowicz and Amanda Moore both recorded double-doubles in the game, Sopkowicz getting a team high 16 points with 10 rebounds and Moore scoring ten with a team-high 11 boards. Sarah Stariha had 15 points and seven assists while Kandace Fox added 13 points.
The Bucs are now off until January 5 when they return to Midwest Conference Play at Grinnell College. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
