Frigid Shooting First Half Leads to Bucs Loss

January 30, 2010 at 3:50 pm

Beloit, WI -- Somehow, the cold weather outside the last few days got into the Beloit College Women's Basketball team's shooting ability.

A very cold shooting opening half led to a 70-42 loss to St. Norbert College in Flood Arena on Saturday.

The Buccaneers couldn't buy a bucket in the first 13 minutes of the game, with Mary Parker finally breaking the 0-11 drought on a jumper with 6:52 left. By that time, the Green Knights had darted out to a 13-point advantage.

SNC then closed the half on a 12-4 run to lead 31-10 at the break. Beloit shot just 16.7% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes (3-18).

St. Norbert kept pushing in the second half and built their lead up to as high as 35 points at 58-23 before Beloit closed to within 24 at 66-42 with just over a minute left.

Diana Sopkowicz led the Buccaneers with 17 points, going 8-9 from the field, while Parker had 16 points and five assists.

The Bucs will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Tuesday night in Flood Arena when they host Ripon College. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
