Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team was hungry for a win. And they got just what they wanted with a 72-64 Midwest Conference victory over Carroll University in Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers looked to be in control of the contest early, building a 16-6 lead eight minutes in. They still led 19-9 at the 8:47 mark before the Pioneers climbed back into it with a 10-2 run over the next five minutes to pull within two at 21-19. But Beloit closed the half on a 7-2 spurt to lead 28-21 at the break.
The Bucs led by seven at 37-30 five minutes into the second half but a 13-6 run by the Pioneers tied it at 43-all with 11:22 remaining. The game stayed tight for the next eight minutes until, leading 57-54, the Buccaneers put together a 14-4 run to go up 71-58 with 37 seconds left.
Sarah Stariha led three Bucs in double figures with 17 points while Mary Parker had 15 with ten rebounds and Diana Sopkowicz 14 with 11 boards.
Beloit hits the road on Tuesday night, playing at Lawrence University in Appleton, before returning to Flood Arena on Friday to host Lake Forest College. Tuesday's game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
