Kenosha, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team got their 2009-10 season going on Saturday afternoon but fell at Carthage College 57-46.
The Lady Red scored the first 14 points of the game before Diana Sopkowicz finally got the Bucs on the board at the 12:57 mark of the opening half. CC built its lead to 15, the last with 4:22 left in the half at 30-15, before Beloit scored the final four points of the half to make it 30-19 at the break.
Carthage came out strong in the second half and pushed their advantage as high as 19, the last time at 44-25 with 9:45 remaining, before the Buccaneers put together a 19-7 run that cut the deficit to seven at 51-44 with 2:28 left. But CC closed the game with a 6-2 run for the final score.
Faith Jones led the way with 14 points while Sopkowicz finished with 12 and seven rebounds. Mary Parker had a game-high eight boards.
The Buccaneers make their home debut on Tuesday, and their lone pre-holidays game at Flood Arena, when they host Loras College in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
