Beloit/Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team closed out theie 2011 season on Friday and Saturday with a split of MWC matches, topping Lawrence University 3-2 on Friday in the home finale before falling at Ripon College 3-0 on Saturday.
In Saturday's match at Ripon, the Red Hawks won 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
RC scored six of the last seven points in the first set. In set two, the Bucs rallied from being down 11-2 to pull within 23-19 but could get no closer. In the final set, it was tight throughout before Ripon pulled away from an 18-all tie to score seven of the last nine points for the win.
Leah Kruckman had seven kills and Emma Kozera six while Carolyn Stransky had 29 assists. Julianne Gruenhagen made 11 digs and McKenzie Falker and Amani Edwards had ten each. Kozera recorded three blocks.
In Friday's thrilling come-from-behind win, Beloit battled from two sets down to win the final three, winning 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-11.
After LU took the first two sets, including scoring the last five points to grab set two, the Buccaneers got on the board in the third set by scoring five of the final seven points.
In set four had a run in the middle of the match to go up 21-14 and ease in for the tying set. In the fifth and deciding set, the Bucs jumped out to a 6-1 lead and then never let the Vikings closer than two points to take the match.
Kruckman had 16 kills to lead the attack while Stransky made 43 assists. Falker had 29 digs and Gruenhagen 28 and Kozera recorded six blocks, two solo.
Kozera, Falker and Edwards played their final matches for the Bucs.
