Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team got the monkey off their back on Saturday afternoon at Flood Arena, scoring a 3-0 win over Knox College for their first victory of the 2011 season.
The Buccaneers won the match 25-16, 25-20, 25-13.
In the opening set, Beloit led from start to finish, going on a 5-0 spurt early and holding steady the rest of the way for the win while recording a .435 attack percentage.
In the second set the Bucs led 21-14 but saw Knox come back and trail 23-19 late. But the Buccaneers scored the final two points to get the win.
In the third, and final, set, the Buccaneers had several runs throughout and never let the Prairie Fire back in to score the win.
Megan Slavish had 13 kills to lead the attack while Carolyn Stransky handed out 28 assists. Julianne Gruenhagen led the defense with 12 digs. Emma Kozera had four blocks and Leah Kruckman three.
The team has a little time off before playing at Wisconsin Lutheran College in a non-conference match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Milwaukee. They then close out their home season next Friday against Lawrence University on Senior Night.
