Elmhurst, IL -- The young Beloit College Volleyball team opened their 2011 season on Friday and Saturday at the highly competitive Elmhurst College Invite, going 0-4.
With four freshman and four sophomores on the roster and only three juniors and seniors, the squad definitely got a baptism of fire. But despite the winless weekend, the team responded well against some top-notch competition.
The Bucs opened with a 3-0 loss to John Carroll University and then fell to Dominican University 3-0, both on Friday night.
Rachel Skoza and Megan Slavish each had eight kills against JCU, while McKenzie Falker had seven. Carolyn Stransky made 28 set assists and Falker had 19 digs.
Against Dominican, Skoza and Falker led the way with four kills. Stransky had 12 assists and Slavish eight digs.
Saturday, the Bucs opened with a 3-0 loss to host Elmhurst and then dropped their final match 3-0 to Capital University.
Falker made 10 kills and eight digs while Stransky had 19 assists against Elmhurst. In the finale, Skoza and Leah Kruckman each had seven kills, Stransky had 31 assists and Falker 23 digs.
For the weekend, Falker finished with 25 kills and 52 digs while Stransky had 90 assists.
The Buccaneers head to Milwaukee on Wednesday night for the MSOE Triangular, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran College at 5:00 p.m. and the host school at 7:00 p.m.
