Buccaneers Prepare to Battle #3 Wash U in Midwest Regional

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team, making their second NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, are getting ready to take on #3-ranked and NCAA III defending Champion Washington University on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Midwest Regional at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The Bucs earned their spot in the Tournament with a 3-0 win over St. Norbert College in the Midwest Conference Tournament Championship Match at Monmouth College last Saturday.  The appearance is the second in the program's history.  The first came in 2006.  They finished the regular season with a 19-11 record and have won five straight matches.

Wash U (31-3) earned an at-large berth in the Tournament after being upset in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament Championship Match by now #1-ranked Emory University.  The Bears, the top-ranked team the entire season until their loss to Emory, have won an NCAA Division III record ten national championships, including the 2009 title.  They are appearing in their 24th consecutive Tournament and are 85-14 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.

In the other three Midwest Regional quarterfinal matchups at Carthage, #4-seed University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will face #5-seed Wartburg College at 12:30 p.m.; #3 University of Wisconsin-Platteville will face #6 Dominican University at 5:30 p.m.; and host #2 Carthage College takes on #7 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Wisconsin-Whitewater, who won national titles in 2002 and 2005, will be competing in the NCAA Tournament for the 19th season in a row. The Warhawks are 42-21 all-time in NCAA Tournament play and finished this season with a 28-8 overall mark.

Wartburg College upset top-seeded Loras College to capture the 2010 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) title and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Knights finished the season with a 23-15 overall record and are competing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.

Wisconsin-Platteville is also an automatic tournament qualifier, having defeated Wisconsin-Eau Claire to capture the 2010 WIAC title. The Pioneers are 31-3 overall and enter the postseason on a 19-match winning streak. UW-Platteville is playing in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in school history and the third time over the past four seasons.

Dominican University qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, defeating Benedictine University in the Northern Athletic Conference (NAC) Championship. The Stars are 26-9 overall this year and finished with a 10-2 mark in the NAC.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament as the fourth-place finisher out of the WIAC. The Titans, who advanced to the NCAA semifinals last season, are 24-13 overall this year.

Carthage College won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 3-0 victory over Wheaton College to gain the league’s automatic postseason berth. The Lady Reds are 30-7 overall.  The Lady Reds, who have played one of the toughest schedules in Division III, enters the NCAA Tournament on a 12-match winning streak.

Regional semifinal matches will be played on Saturday at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m. with the Championship Match on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
