Monmouth, IL -- The Beloit College Volleyball team threw off the monkey that had been riding their back for the past two seasons in the Midwest Conference Volleyball Tournament, defeating St. Norbert College 3-0 to win the MWC Tourney Championship and the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.
The Bucs had been denied the MWC Tourney crown and the NCAA bid the last two seasons in losses to the Green Knights. They made sure it wouldn't happen a third straight time.
Beloit won 25-23, 29-27, 25-19 to secure their second trip to the NCAA's, the first coming back in 2006. The Buccaneers will find out who and where they'll be playing during the selection show on Monday morning.
The Bucs broke away from a 23-all tie in the first set for the win. In set two it was tight throughout before Beloit scored the final two points for the win. In the third set the Bucs took control early with a 10-3 run out of the gate and never looked back. Taylor Tuinstra, off a Caitlin O'Leary set, nailed it down with a kill.
For the match Laura Toth had 15 kills and Tess Jacquez 13 to lead the attack. O'Leary finished with 34 set assists. Margo Regier made a team-high 22 digs while Mary Parker had 17, O'Leary and McKenzie Falker 15 each and Jacquez 13. Toth finished with five blocks while Emma Kozera had four.
